Avow was founded in 1983 as Collier County’s original, nonprofit hospice. Today, Avow’s companies care not only for those who are terminally ill, but also for those who have serious and chronic illnesses or who have suffered great loss. Services provided by Avow companies include:
Hospice care for the terminally ill – at home, in a nursing facility, in the hospital or in Avow’s Hospice House – provided by an interdisciplinary team that includes a physician, nurse, social worker, chaplain, hospice aide, music and/or massage therapist, Reiki practitioner and volunteers to offer respite to caregivers or social visits to patients
Grief and bereavement support for children, teens and adults; many sessions are tailored to people who share certain interests or experiences
Palliative care physician consultations
Community memorial services throughout the county
Disease-specific education and support for caregivers, even if their loved one is not an Avow patient
Compassionate support for those who have experienced the death of a pet
Education on caregiving, bereavement, end of life, geriatric care, children’s grief, complementary therapies and other issues that affect those touched by serious illness, grief or loss
