Human-Animal Bond Celebrated at Avow

Approximately 100 people and about 20 pets gathered at Avow Hospice on October 21 to celebrate and learn more about the human-animal bond at “P.A.W.S. for an Autumn Sunset.” The event featured keynote speakers Karen Lasker, Director of The Brody Project and Avow Social Worker Denise Afflerbach who discussed animal assisted therapy programs and the animal grieving process. Guests, accompanied by their pets, enjoyed “PAWSitini” cocktails, dinner and silent and live auctions. Proceeds from the event will benefit Avow Hospice pet-related programs and services.

Avow® Hospice is a community-focused, not-for-profit hospice, serving its friends, families and neighbors living in Collier County, Florida since 1983. Avow provides specialized end-of-life care to those living with a life-threatening illness and offers support to those who are caring for them. Our interdisciplinary care team provides medical care, pain management and complementary therapies. Avow Hospice cares for patients wherever they live. In addition, Avow Hospice has the only hospice house in Collier County (for in-patient acute care and respite). Avow also offers grief and bereavement support to the families and friends of our patients as well as anyone in the community who has experienced a loss. Avow Hospice is a non-profit organization that relies on community donations to help fund patient care and programs for our community.
