Karla Mramor, Avow Hospice complementary therapies manager and music therapist, has been named the national winner in the hospice/palliative care professional category for the 2011 Dorland Health People Awards.
The People Awards program recognizes individual healthcare practitioners who inspire, motivate and empower professionals and make a difference in transitioning the patient through the complicated healthcare landscape.
Ms. Mramor has served hospice patients in Collier County through Avow Hospice since 2006. Karla, a board certified music therapist, leads the Avow Hospice complementary therapies program which includes music therapy, massage therapy and Reiki.
The Dorland Health People Award specifically recognized Karla’s efforts related to educating hospice staff and families on the benefits of complementary therapies, creating an innovative DVD series, “Comfort for the Journey,” for hospice house patients and families, and extending music therapy services to senior living facilities in the county.
Dorland Health People Award winners were recognized at an awards luncheon at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. in October. Winners were brought to the stage to receive a crystal award.
