Avow Board Member Named Philanthropist of the Year

Mickey Biondo, Avow Hospice Board of Director Vice-Chair, was honored as “2011 Philanthropist of the Year” by Gulfshore Life Magazine. The award recognized Mickey’s efforts to rally the community ofPelicanBay to raise more than $1 million for Avow Hospice. The award, Mickey humbly says, belongs to everyone inPelicanBay.

Mickey built and ran a campaign cabinet of 14 community leaders, who in turn recruited and trained 52 association “captains.” For more than a year, Mickey “talked” with the community through articles in the Pelican Bay Post, North Naples Journal, the Pelican Bay Journal and the Bay Colony Beacon. His communications focused on informing the community about the many services available from Avow Hospice. Mickey’s piece de resistance was “Let Us Be the Music,” a mega concert forCollierCounty held in March 2010.

Mickey says he’s honored by the philanthropy award, but is quick to share kudos with his campaign cabinet association captains and everyPelicanBayresident and business that supported his efforts in some way. “No other community has come together likePelicanBayto accomplish such an ambitious goal. There were those who said it couldn’t be done. To the hundreds who participated in achieving this success, who gave of their time, talent and treasure I can only say:PelicanBay, you are the best of the best! I am proud to share this award with all of you.”
