Promise Campaign Priorities

Operations: $6,000,000

The annual operating budget provides the groundwork for everything Avow does. Because gifts that support the day-to-day operations are critical in fulfilling the mission of Avow, operations support is an integral part of the Promise Campaign. Gifts to operations will help Avow fulfill its mission by:

  • caring for patients and families with the services they really need and deserve, exceeding the “basic” care covered by Medicare/Medicaid
  • providing bereavement services to all in the community
  • offering complementary therapies, such as music and massage therapies, to its patients
  • continuing its programs of outreach and education to the entire community
  • investing in staff education and development for some of the finest hospice clinicians in theUnited States

Endowments: $3,000,000

Endowment funds are a vital, sustaining source of support and provide dependable funds, year after year. The long-range goal is to increase the endowment to cover three to five percent of the operating budget. With a strong endowment, Avow will be able to:

• ensure the mission of Avow will be fulfilled over successive generations
• help meet ongoing expenses
• fund special projects and programs
• cover capital expenditures

Campus Enhancements: $1,000,000

Campus enhancement/beautification is more than plantings and landscaping. It is creating an outdoor campus that is an integral part of Avow. Campus enhancements will involve spaces around and between buildings—such as walkways, fountains and gardens—making Avow a more welcoming environment. With these projects, the Avow campus will provide a:

• serene setting and environment of peace and tranquility
• refuge to grieve and heal
• spot to pause and reflect
• place to celebrate family, friends and pets
• beautiful and powerful way to honor a loved one through memorial opportunities

Help Renew the Promise

Avow recognizes that its continued success depends on the generous investment of a group of devoted friends—friends who will be given the opportunity to lead in renewing the promise of Avow. These benefactors know and appreciate the significance of Avow in the lives of the terminally ill in CollierCountyand in their own lives. Donors to the Promise Campaign may realize substantial income and tax benefits, depending on the type of gift donated to Avow. For most donors, there are three methods of giving:

• Outright Gifts

Gifts of cash, securities, real estate and other tangible personal property are tax deductible as allowable by law. Gifts of highly appreciated securities and property may offer attractive tax advantages to donors. Pledges may be paid over three to five years.

• Life Income Gifts

Life income gifts will provide Avow the use of funds for years to come. By establishing life income gifts, donors have the satisfaction of making a gift to Avow while retaining the income from the assets for their lifetime or the lifetime of a loved one.

• Bequests

Gifts through wills build the endowment and ensure that the donor’s contribution and name are preserved in perpetuity. Bequests often provide the best opportunity to fulfill a special interest in or make a significant gift to Avow.
